Surah At-Tawbah 9:77

فَأَعْقَبَهُمْ نِفَاقًا فِى قُلُوبِهِمْ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يَلْقَوْنَهُۥ بِمَآ أَخْلَفُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا وَعَدُوهُ وَبِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَكْذِبُونَ

So He penalized them with hypocrisy in their hearts until the Day they will meet Him - because they failed Allāh in what they promised Him and because they [habitually] used to lie.

Translation: Saheeh International

Tafsir

So He made the consequence in their case hypocrisy fixed in their hearts until the day they meet Him that is God on the Day of Resurrection because they failed God in what they promised Him and because of that concerning which they lied he Tha‘laba then brought the payment of his alms to the Prophet s who said to him …
